Unit 10 Summary
The topic of the divided brain (the differences between the left and right hemispheres) is a captivating topic for anyone involved in mental health, and indeed for most of us with one of these complex things in our head! One of the greatest books I have read on the topic is The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World by Iain McGilchrist, whom I consider one of the great intellects of our time. This short course is my very humble attempt at summarizing some of the important points that are brought out in the book. I have to say I could not hope to touch the depths of this book in such a short course and I’d reason that McGilchrist himself would have to give us a week long workshop to unpack the wealth of knowledge in this work. Nevertheless we have to start somewhere and so I thought it a good idea to do this very basic introduction to the divided brain – in the hope that you will go onto buy the book and get into the depths of this knowledge. It will change your life.

Please get the book if you don’t have it, but be warned it’s very long and not the easiest thing to read – a challenge indeed – but worth the effort I think.

I do hope you enjoy the course.
