Making Neurofeedback Work for ADHD

For as long as children have been diagnosed with ADHD, their families have yearned for non-pharmacological interventions to address the disorder (Dosreis et al., 2003; Sharpe, 2014). Perhaps none of these have attracted as much excitement as neurofeedback (NF), and with good reason, as recent research shows NF to be remarkably effective at reducing symptoms of ADHD. Despite such promise, NF has largely failed to become more than a marginal alternative therapy for ADHD. That may be about to change. New technologies are changing the way NF is delivered, bringing much needed improvements that address issues of feasibility, patient satisfaction, and efficacy which have been keeping NF on the sidelines…
