To be considering counselling tells me you have a need to talk to someone. I believe I can be that person. I will be honest about my ability to help you, though. I believe counselling can help most people, if not everyone, to deal with whatever it is that’s causing them to seek help. Once you’ve made contact we can have a relaxed initial session and you can see for yourself what it’s like and whether we can continue to work together. After that we’ll work out the details but you don’t need to consider that at the moment. The most important thing is taking one step at a time.
There are also other ways to have a session instead of talking. I have experience with using drawings and writing to express emotions, as well as using sand tray and figurines to explore family dynamics. There is no pressure for the client to talk and it may just take some time. The client will be supported to use whichever tools they feel most comfortable with and, when the time is right, encouraged to step out of their comfort zone.
I work with people from all backgrounds, from adolescents through to older adults. Therapy does not work in a “one size fits all” manner, and together with my clients I establish a pattern of working which suits their needs. I have an integrative qualification which means I have learned a variety of ways to help whoever needs it, which includes CBT focused therapy; psychodynamic therapy; existential therapy and person-centred therapy.
